Brain Power for Life: How Early Development Influences Your Life Course

Date: April 2nd, 2024

Time: 4 pm PT / 7 pm ET

Duration: 60 minutes

Speaker: Judy Romano, MD, FAAP, RYT, BLS

This webinar examines the relationship between early brain development and dementia prevention. The fundamentals of early brain development and child development have advanced in recent years through advances in neuroscience, molecular biology, and genomics allowing understanding of how early experiences are built into the human body and brain. The human brain is developed by a dance between genetic factors and the environment. The recognition of the effects of early stress that is toxic in nature resulting in physiologic disruption has been well studied and documented. These effects can result in disruptions of development for children and have negative effects on health throughout the lifespan.

Biology and experience are not destiny, however, and resilience is the antidote! High on the list of ways to develop and grow resilience are familiar to yoga practitioners and teachers - meditation and mindfulness practices, especially gratitude practices and the recognition of the importance of relationships. Adherence to overall personal wellness practices as described by the ARPF 4 Pillars provides the blueprint for the mitigation of the effects of stress on early development while supporting healthy resilience.
