MOVEMENT WEEK
Monday, September 15, 2025, 12:00 PM to Friday, September 19, 2025, 1:00 PM EST
Category: Events

Join us for a week of moving and grooving! This series is brought to you by 5 master teachers, each teaching a different type of exercise. Variety is the spice of life and we hope you'll find something you can incorporate into your exercise routine. There is a modest registration fee of $40 for the entire week. Exercise enhances brain health by increasing blood flow, stimulating the growth of new brain cells, and improving neural connections, which in turn boosts memory, mood, and cognitive function... and more!

Every day we'll meet from 9 am PT / 12 pm ET for one hour. Each session will have modifications and be accessible to all. This event will be recorded.

ABOUT THE SESSIONS

Day 1: Tune Up Fitness® with Jill Miller, C-IAYT, ERYT Uncover the User’s Manual to your body. In this class, we'll help fix your aches and pains, regain mobility and lower your stress using a few simple techniques and some guided education about your body. Live with less pain and better movement, no matter your age or stage of fitness. Props: Grab a pillow and bath towel

Day 2: Latin Zumba with Alicia Elorza, ACE, AFAA - Get moving and feel the rhythm! This fun, low-impact workout blends upbeat music from around the world with easy-to-follow dance moves. It’s a joyful way to boost your cardiovascular health, improve coordination, and lift your mood. No dance experience needed – just bring your smile and energy!

Day 3: Meditation in Motion with Taylor Temnick, Ed.D, LAT, ATC, CES, RYT - This class incorporates Tai Chi and Qigong principles with the intention of improving physical and mental well-being. You will be introduced to modified forms of Tai Chi, learning movement basics such as weight transfers and rhythmic movements, and improving your mind-muscle connection through awareness and breathing to improve strength and vitality.

Day 4: Ageless Grace® with Lana Gelb, MS, BLS - This chair-based class includes barefoot exercises to stimulate thousands of nerve endings, the three major balance points, and textural awareness. It activates all five main functions of the brain through fun, Cognitive/Movement games, and challenges.

Day 5: Strength Training for the Older Adult with Anna Aldrete Springer, NASM, INHC, C-IAYT, BLS Strength training is one of the best ways to combat osteoporosis and sarcopenia (muscle loss) in your 40s, 50s, and beyond. This sampler strength training workout is an effective and evidence-based method for improving bone density, increasing muscle mass, which leads to better balance and stability, and decreasing your fall risk. Props: light weights (if you don't have weights, you can use cans of food or bottles of water). Adding extra weight stresses your muscles and bones, which results in building new muscle and getting stronger.

I have bone and joint issues, are these classes safe for me? The classes are intended for all levels of mobility and ability, but you are the best judge of what you can and cannot do. However, the teacher is not able to comment on an individual, especially since not everyone will have their camera on.

It's really up to you to decide and then modify any possible exercise that is not safe for you to do. The exercises and yoga sets provided during the Movement Week and by Alzheimer’s Research and Prevention Foundation (ARPF) are for general education and outreach purposes only. We recommend you work with your healthcare provider first if you have a health condition or experience dizziness, shortness of breath or any other discomfort while or after exercising.
